Web Browsers

There are a number of web browsers you can choose to run in your business. Which one depends on your specific needs and, to a degree, personal choice of features, interface and other considerations. Whichever browser you choose, it is important to keep it up to date – partly to take advantage of new functionality, faster operation and compatibility with the latest web technology – but mainly to ensure that security is maintained, as vulnerabilities in browsers are a favoured target for cybercriminals. This means not only running the latest version of your chosen browser that your operating system will support, but also being sure to download and install the latest patches to your installed browser.

Updating to the latest version of your browser

Updating to the latest version of web browsers is straightforward, and we have made it even easier by providing links from this page to the most popular ones. Others can be updated by going to their home page and following respective instructions.

Simply click on the icon below representing the browser you have installed, and this will take you to the original website. If you have been considering changing to a different browser altogether – for example from Internet Explorer to Firefox – clicking on the icon for your chosen new browser will also enable you to do this quickly and easily.

Remember – installing the latest version of your browser alone is not sufficient to protect you from online threats.

If you have difficulty in installing a new browser or have any queries, seek advice and / or assistance from a reputable IT support organisation.

Downloading updates

You will receive periodical notifications that updates are available for your browser. For Windows computers, for example, updates are included in Microsoft’s regular Windows patches – normally issued on a specific Tuesday in each month. Apple Mac OS users should check for updates via the Software Update application.
